Every client has a different story but it can be interesting to see how RTT hypnotherapy has helped others. This is Graham’s story about how he overcame his long term imposter syndrome after just one session.
Graham had recently been promoted to a senior position but was constantly doubting his abilities and his place in the firm. Using RTT hypnotherapy, we tracked his chronic self-doubt back to childhood events where he was excited to speak to his dad arriving home from work, but his dad was preoccupied and Graham got ushered away. Graham also started a new school and as the new boy, he didn’t fit in and felt excluded.
From these events, Graham’s subconscious mind started to form a belief that what he has to say doesn’t matter, no one wants to listen and he’s not important, not “part of the gang”. So the imposter syndrome was a subconscious reaction to this early feeling of rejection: if I doubt myself and don’t put myself forward, I’ll be protected from that experience of rejection and hurt.
It’s only in hypnosis that we can uncover the origin and underlying cause of the imposter syndrome in this way. Once we understand what’s going on, I guide clients to uproot these unhelpful, outdated beliefs and strategies from the subconscious so that those patterns stop showing up to hold the person back. Because of course, protecting yourself from rejection by rejecting yourself first is not a healthy, productive approach you want in your life. I then help my clients reprogramme their mind to recognise the truth about their own skills, successes and potential and to feel at ease with who they genuinely are.
Once we do this work at a subconscious level, clients notice rapid and radical improvements in their self-belief and self-esteem. They often notice positive changes in other areas of their life too. As a client with imposter syndrome noted in a recent review; “Whilst I presented to Sarah with a work issue, RTT has had a ripple effect on other areas of my life too, so I feel more confident and positive all-round.”
